Welcome to Kyiv, founded as an early trading center, then a center for the Eastern Orthodox faith, birthplace of Kiev Rus, and capital of Ukraine. There’s so much to enjoy in the structures of this wonderful city, including the magnificent architecture of 11th century St. Sophia’s Cathedral and Rastrelli-designed St. Andrew’s Church. For the faithful, the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery offers catacombs dating from the Neolithic period, as living and worshiping space for its monks. There’s rich history from the Soviet and World War II periods as well – visit the monumental sculpture Motherland in the War Memorial Complex and the downtown Museum of Chernobyl.
Local restaurants featuring Ukrainian cuisine, walking tours in Old and Jewish Kyiv, an excursion on the Dnipro River and performances galore will complete a fascinating visit. Tour Designs offers Kyiv hotel arrangements, sightseeing and special services to enrich your visit.
If you have time to explore outside the city, visit Babi Yar, the Ukrainian Museum of Folk Architecture or perhaps the Chernobyl region itself. Further afield, any visitor to Ukraine should combine a visit to Kyiv with time in Lviv, Odessa, and the Crimea – to name the most obvious. Those with particular ancestral or other interests will enjoy the western Ukraine, World War II history around Kursk and many other areas.
Straddling the border between central Europe and Russia, Ukraine is fascinating for many reasons. Let Tour Designs introduce you to Kyiv and its country.
